We Observe Life In Our Rivers In Many Ways
Initial biodiversity studies gave us an indication of the true picture of life in the river. We discovered very poor conditions for any living species to survive. We only found worms, tadpoles and mosquitoe fish. The vegetation was mainly weeds. After a year and a half of rehabilitation efforts, we are proud to find that snakeheads (ikan haruan), eels and catfish have been spotted swimming in the river! River water quality was monitored by the local community with an independent laboratory engaged to observe the significant changes in the Sungai Way water quality on a quarterly basis. Overall the water quality of Sungai Way has improved from between Class IV-V (for irrigation purpose only) to Class III (needs extensive treatment before suitable for drinking and recreational use with body contact) within the project period. Its water quality improvement is tabled below:

We also watch and monitor the outcomes of these studies closely to measure the effectiveness of the programmes we run to educate the community and people at large on the importance of being responsible for our environment.
